Thanks, everyone! (BTB, that's my favorite picture of the man too!)

That "history of AA activism" post will definitely be forthcoming. It's time to get concrete about what we want and what we don't!

"We need Asian American Studies departments that will teach our young people to learn from the past, rather than attacking the past".

This touched me.

Thanks for a great post, jaehwan! Look forward to reading more. Also, if you have time, it'd be great if you could describe specific examples of good and bad things AA leaders have said and done.

That's a great recommendation, nightshade. I'm going to do it.

Harvard has been a trailblazer in all sorts of areas in education, so there's no reason why they can't trailblaze in this as well. The people on the 44's and the people in my own local group have both the intellectual capital and the experience to help them make the transition. Let's come together and do it!

Is everyone else in?

I saw this:

and I think I might actually know one of the people in the article. I'm going to follow up there as well.

You should get in touch with the students there who are fighting for the program--send them your post.

If Harvard could develop a program that looks at historical context of Asian Americans, and didn't shape it in an Orientalist manner, then other schools would follow, Hong Kingston's influence or not.

P.S. Congratulations on your first blog post.
