They said his condition was more complex than they originally expected." It sounds like they don't think they're up for the job. I'm surprised they didn't refer him to someone who could. It seems like a cop out on the Canadian doctors part. He won't have a normal life and I don't he can speak clearly because of that tumor growing around his mouth.
