Miss Teen South Carolina explains why 1 in 5 Americans cannot locate the U.S. on a map. BRILLIANT.

Why all the hate? It’s not like her answer put her at the back of the pack; she STILL MADE IT TO THE TOP 5!

“First runner-up in the competition was Miss New Jersey Teen USA Alyssa Campanella. The rest of the top five, in order, were Miss North Carolina Teen USA Kaitlin Coble, Miss South Carolina Teen USA Lauren Caitlin Upton and Miss West Virginia Teen USA Chelsea Welch.”

Most people can’t answer the simplest questions in front of a camera. Give the woman a break.

    You’re so stupid, Heli.

Anyway, 4th place ain’t bad! Miss Teen West Virginia probably forgot to mention the children.

    ….and world peace!

    >You’re so stuipd, Heli.

Usually I will be insulted by that statement. But since you made it, I will take it as a compliment.

    You’re so lame, Heli.

(And you couldn’t even cut and paste properly!)

World peace would’ve gotten her up to 3rd place at least! She, like the world, was too distracted by Iraq.

This is the kind of person you talk to about Hojiminy.

    You’re so white, Heli.

    (The trifecta!)

The only thing that annoys me about Hojiminy is it takes so long to fly there; you gotta transfer through LAX and then Hong Kong, and they haven’t upgraded the fucking airport in AGES. The last time I tried flying into Yupric we had to circle around and then divert because some goddamn livestock wandered onto the runway and we had to land in an emergency field in Chuttup. Fucked up my whole morning.

Like, I can’t find Hojiminy on a map, either.

It’s circled in red. I drew the red circle in there, it’s not part of the map.

Why does the URL have the words lanchiao ABC in it?

Those fuckers at the airline lied to me!! Hong Kong as a transfer point my ass!! Still, I suppose I ought to be grateful I didn’t switch planes in the savage land of New Guinea ….

It looks like she got a chance to “redeem” herself, although I’m still not satisfied at how simplistic her answer is:

    Interesting.

What does everyone think should be a good answer other than ‘they need better education”?

If you think about it, ’some people don’t have maps’ actually isn’t that bad.

You know what, guys? theme is right. By using this poor white girl to perpetuate the stereotype of the dumb blonde, we are being hypocrits. As a group that doesn’t like to be stereotyped, we should know how it feels and strive to be more empathetic to her plight.

Don’t we always complain about how we are vilified and emasculated in American media? How is that different from what is happening to this poor white girl? This double standard is just the kind of thing that we do to keep ourselves down. Miss Teen South Carolina is a courageous white girl for getting on a stage in front of such a huge audience and delivering her answer despite her obvious anxiety.

Even though she’s dumber than dirt.

I hear the education standards in Hojiminy are amazing. There, 100% of the inhabitants can find Hojiminy on a map.
