“TERRORIST!” Harold and Kumar 2

This movie is looking beautiful. This is what more “Asian-American” movies should be doing: they oughtta just be good movies about whatever subjects or adventures non-”ethnic” movies are about, who simply have Asian-Americans in them. They oughtta acknowledge the ethnicities of the characters in some ways without going overboard with the Asian exotic/ political bullshit, as so many Joy Luck Club/ Red Corner-type movies have done in the past. We (the 44 Founders) loved the first one and kept elbowing Sheki in the ribs when Harold came on screen, because they were the same person. I can’t wait!!

3:00 pm | Aug 23, 2007OMG, I cannot wait. The trailer looks so genius. And what’s even better is that John Cho and Kal Penn are the protagonists, and Doogie Howser is their sidekick.

1:26 am | Aug 24, 2007Yeah, I think you capture it perfectly. If the film is all intellectualized empty Asian American experience cliches, that’s a kind of stereotyping too. On the flipside, if it’s just Asian American folks being “normal” and society treating them great, that’s not really realistic.
When media and filmmakers hit that middle ground where we are portrayed as normal folks just trying to get by, not directly worrying about race, joking about it some, and then suddenly, *wham* it blindsides them.

12:02 pm | Aug 24, 2007I’m stoked.
The funny thing is I have a friend who looks and acts almost EXACTLY like Kumar, except he’s not Indian… he’s just a really tan Chinese guy.

7:50 am | Aug 26, 2007We need more films that make fun of the terror scare. Old hags may not react to you like that in real life, but an airline wanted a guy to change his shirt because it had Arabic script on it.

10:03 pm | Aug 27, 2007Actually, a while back, an older white lady did just that and panicked when she saw several Muslims sitting together. The FBI was pretty annoyed when they realized she had no basis for her belief.

5:44 am | Aug 30, 2007Lately, I’ve come to hate old people. I’d like to kick the habit, but they make it so hard for me.
