A for Ice Cream

Caught this clever Baskin Robbins video:

This short, simple little commercial I really like because it’s well-executed and undermines so many stereotypical portrayals:

It’s a daughter and father (or maybe grandfather) bonding, and not the typical mother/daughter pair with the males nowhere to be found.
They both speak perfect English.
The daughter didn’t do well in school.
The father didn’t care about her academic performance and is willing to trick the mom for ice cream.
As a result of their similar use of language and values, there’s no evident generational or cultural gap.
It’s funny (and not because of Asianness, as anyone could have taken those roles).

It shows the same social consciousness as the Asian hockey Tim Hortons commercial that came out a while back, and possibly even more sophistication in its elegance and simplicity.

Good job, Baskin Robbins and Reese’s!

Hm… is there a way to give them positive feedback over the commercial?

I’m sure you could just write them via their website! I did that for Tim Hortons, and come to think of it, I should do it for Baskin Robbins too ….
