Kickin’ it with Optimus Prime and Megatron

While this isn’t directly related to Asian-American issues, it’s a bit of cool news I wanted to share. The Transformers movie is coming out this summer, and Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime, is confirmed as the movie voice as well; while Frank Welker, the original voice of Megatron, will not be doing the movie version (that role has gone to Hugo Weaving), he will most likely still have a role in the movie, and he has just been confirmed to be reprising his Megatron role alongside Peter Cullen in the Activision Game!
Here are some great interviews with Cullen and Welker.
I think one of the reasons Transformers had so much appeal for Asian-American boys in particular was because, unlike, say, G.I. Joe or He-Man, it was something young kids of all races could “relate” to. Sure, you had a bunch of giant alien military robots, which, really, isn’t something that seems all that relatable, but that was what made them so endearing: anybody could pretend to be one of them, and you didn’t have to look like Duke or Prince Adam to do it.
And finally, aren’t these two guys adorable?
